Dear Friends,

Our lives have certainly changed since this letter last year. We are living in Lake Charles, LA, and Mark now works for CONDEA Vista Company. Ellen is not working full time at the moment and the kids are really enjoying their new school.

Right now, our residence is a two-bedroom apartment. We sold our home in Houston last August so most of our belongings are in storage. We are in the process of building a house. We are building the same house as in Houston since we liked it so much and couldn't find something else that really fit our needs here. It has been a long process since we began last May, and we are anxious to move in. Hopefully by the end of January or beginning of February we will begin our move.

Mark's new job at Vista is keeping him busy. He puts in about 10 to 12 hours a day. That does not include going to the house construction everyday and supervising for an hour. But he is happy once again working at an operating company and not traveling so much.

Ellen is substituting at the children's school whenever they need her and also volunteering when she can. She will be taking one of her teaching certification exams for Louisiana this January and another in March. She has become very active in our Synagogue here. Mark has enjoyed meeting the people and attending functions.

Samuel, age 9, is active with soccer and basketball but soccer is his favorite. He says he wants to be a professional soccer player. He is also in the school chorus and will continue with the piano once we move into the house. He is very music oriented. Samuel also participated in his first Chess tournament, coming home with a third place trophy. Now, if we could just get him to stop spending all his money on Pokémon cards, he'd be in good shape..

Lisa just had her 8-year-old birthday party. She continues to dance Jazz and Ballet. She likes her new dance studio and has made some nice friends. She is demonstrating some natural talent in drawing. The school offers art once a week and she is really enjoying the projects.

Joseph and Anthony are sophomores this year at Texas A&M. Last summer they worked for Baker-Petrolite, a specialty chemicals company, doing projects in the lab and on the computer. This fall they completed some custom Visual Basic technical software that Baker-Petrolite contracted from them. They continue to make straight A grades this year and have made us very proud.

Until we move into our house, our pet cat Jesse will be an indoor cat. He has adjusted well and is now an integrated member of the family. During the first half of the year while Mark was still commuting back to Houston on weekends, he frequently assumed his favorite perch on Mark's suitcase.

We now have our own domain name, and have placed some of the photos of the home construction on the ftp Web site if you are interested. This Christmas newsletter and all those from previous years are accessible on-line from a link on our Web Home Page. Please note our new internet addresses below, as well as the new street address. Meanwhile, we all hope that the year has been a good one, and that your family is healthy and happy. Please write (snail mail or email) or stop by for a visit if you're in the area. Lake Charles has some first-class gambling casinos.

We hope you are all healthy and feeling lots of joy. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Mark, Ellen, Anthony, Joseph, Samuel, and Lisa, and Jesse the cat
